In the heart of Namibia’s Deadvlei, where towering dunes meet a cracked white clay pan, a lone camel thorn tree stands as a reminder of a landscape frozen in time. Preserved by the desert’s extreme dryness for centuries, these ancient trees have become enduring symbols of resilience in one of the world’s oldest deserts.
Captured on a Sony A7R VI paired with the Sony FE 100–400mm f/4.5–5.6 GM, the telephoto perspective compressed the immense dune behind the tree, emphasizing the striking contrast between the warm orange sands, the pale clay pan, and the deep shadow sweeping across the landscape. Rather than photographing the entire scene, the goal was to simplify it—to let shape, colour, and negative space tell the story.
